In 2022, Governor Hochul Announced $71 Million Available for Development of 12 Supportive Crisis Stabilization Centers throughout New York State.
MHAST will operate a Supportive CSC located in Broome County, NY. We serve an 8-county region and provide an alternative to the ER and CPEP for crises relating to mental health or substance use symptoms. The CSC is a living room model, offering walk-in services to all individuals, including adults, adolescents, children and families, 24-hours a day, 7-days per week, 365-days per year; individuals can stay at the CSC up to 24-hours for crisis intervention and support.
All services are voluntary, person-centered, and trauma-informed, with an emphasis on peer support that is resilience and recovery oriented. CSC services include: de-escalation, safety planning, psychoeducation, peer support, coping skills, emotion regulation and referrals to treatment services and community supports. Peer support and recovery play a vital role in the center.
The CSC is licensed and operated under the NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) & the NYS Office of Addiction Services And Supports (OASAS) and is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals including Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSW), Certified Peer Specialists, Substance Use Counselors (CASAC) and other trained professionals.
