OVERVIEW:

The Crisis Respite Senior Recovery Specialist is responsible for instilling hope, supporting wellness; and demonstrating that recovery is real and attainable. Join us to help clients explore their personal goals and engage them in community and social events using compassion, trauma-informed techniques, and peer support. This position will also assist the Team Lead in overseeing the daily operations of the Crisis Respite House.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma required; college-level academic work in a related field strongly preferred
  • Must possess a current peer certification or training certificate from an accredited peer training program
  • At least 2 years’ experience working as a peer
  • Personal experience as a recipient of mental health and/or substance use services, with three years of successful recovery
  • Working knowledge of issues facing persons with mental health and substance use concerns
  • Ability to remain at ease and comfortable when dealing with individuals in crisis
  • Office skills, including the ability to use a computer, fax and copier
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience working in a residential facility preferred
  • Experience with conducting needs assessments strongly preferred
  • Experience with developing care plans strongly preferred
  • Medicaid billing experience including documentation in an Electronic Health Record
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to MHAST insurance carrier
  • Must satisfy required background checks, which include a criminal background check with results that are acceptable to the NYS Justice Center
  • Ability to occasionally ascend/descend stairs

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide support and advocacy to individuals in crisis
  • Help individuals clarify problems and identify the need for healthy changes
  • Model wellness and recovery, helping individuals work toward their own goals while utilizing a person-centered approach based on individual needs
  • Assist individuals in connecting with community-based supportive services
  • Promote empowerment through meaningful wellness activities and self-advocacy education
  • Answer Warm Line calls and provide peer support and active listening. Ensure compliance with agency and state requirements regarding the Warm Line
  • Assist the Team Lead with training, inventory, and maintaining the smooth functioning of the House
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and emergency plans
  • Assist with insurance verification and authorization for respite stay when appropriate
  • Maintain electronic records
  • Strictly adhere to HIPAA's guidelines regarding Protected Health Information, as outlined in the agency's HIPAA policy manual
  • Additional job duties as assigned

Reports to: Crisis Respite Team Lead

Status: Non-exempt

Hours: Full time

Schedule: 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday/Wednesday/Friday and 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Tuesday/Thursday. May fill in other shifts as necessary.
